Haridwar Ganga Corridor Project

Haridwar, known as the “Gateway to Gods,” is a prominent Hindu pilgrimage site that hosts major religious gatherings such as the Kumbh Mela, Kanwar Yatra, and Navratri, along with 24 additional auspicious bathing days annually, drawing massive crowds to the Ganges River.
To manage the growing footfall and infrastructure demands, the Government of Uttarakhand is pursuing a planned, sustainable transformation through initiatives like the Haridwar Ganga Corridor. The Uttarakhand Investment and Infrastructure Development Board (UIIDB) is spearheading a comprehensive strategy focused on religious and tourism-related development.
This sacred city of deep spiritual and cultural relevance is being reshaped with an emphasis on eco-conscious growth and inclusive planning. Efforts include smart crowd management during large events, environmentally friendly lodging, upgraded waste systems, and revitalization of ghats and riverfronts with modern amenities and heritage preservation. The redevelopment and creation of cultural hubs aim to enrich heritage tourism. Additionally, pedestrian-friendly zones are being introduced to ease congestion in the city’s core during peak pilgrim seasons. Public-private partnerships are playing a key role in driving infrastructure expansion without overburdening state finances. This holistic vision aspires to position Haridwar as a model religious city that harmonizes age-old traditions with contemporary resilience.
